Banjo #562 – “Roadkill Royalty” (5-String Fretless)

The Roadkill Royalty is a fretless 5-string banjo crowned for a kingdom that exists somewhere between backroads and bad timing.

Sitting proudly at the top is a hand-carved possum headstock—your official monarch of “I may have made a poor crossing decision, but I did it with dignity.” It rules with a blank stare and zero interest in court politics.

The body is a naturally weathered gray gourd, dressed in its finest “found beside the road but still very much in charge” finish. No artificial distressing here—this is authentic, long-term exposure to the elements with a hint of mystery and poor life choices.

The fretless neck allows smooth, sliding notes that drift in and out of pitch like royal decrees that were never fully proofread but are enforced anyway.

It’s a noble instrument in the most questionable sense of the word—fit for porch kingdoms, campfire courts, and anyone who believes royalty should probably come with reflective tape.
