Gourd Banjo #546 – “Copperhead”
This is a 5-string fretless gourd banjo built with an emphasis on natural materials and handwork. The peghead is faced with hammered copper veneer, finished with a chemically patinaed surface that is matched on the exterior of the gourd. The result is a unified, aged look that feels settled and intentional rather than decorative.

A spotted goatskin head gives the banjo a warm tone with good depth and clarity. The mahogany neck is smooth and comfortable in the hand, and the fretless setup favors slides, drones, and subtle left-hand expression. It responds best to a relaxed touch and rewards a player who lets the instrument speak at its own pace.

This banjo has a strong old-time voice, a solid feel, and the kind of character that develops from honest materials, careful work, and time.
