This banjo has been finished with a technique called Shou-Sugi-Ban. This is a technique the Japanese have used for centuries to preserve wood. It involves taking a torch and scorching the wood almost black with just a little smoke, producing a very smooth surface. I then put an oil finish.
Some areas feel like the wood is embossed. The peghead is a new design with a Faux copper patina finish. The sound hole has a faux patina Rosette.
